Initialize and Test - Create the logfile and test the CGI

This window lets you check that the CGI is working and is able to record to the stats file. If successful, a window will open to input the reporting date range. If the window says an error, it usually means that the CGI is not executable. It could be due to a variety of reasons given below...

  • cgi-bin is not configured.
  • The ISP has not given cgi execution privilege to your account.
  • The CGI has been uploaded to the wrong dir.
  • The CGI file needs a different extension (try .cgi and .pl)

You may try uploading the CGI using a different FTP program. Then return to SiteTracker to test.

Note: No real data will be recorded until the HTML code has been added to pages. See next step.

Next step is to insert the SiteTracker tracking code in your web page(s).
