| Comments | I think our gardening conditions are similar to yours; hardiness zone 7-8, temperate climate year-round (high: 22 deg C, low: -12 deg. C). We (my husband and I)are concentrating on vegetables and garden fruit (food production) but I do indulge in the lazy woman's perennial border (consists of trades and purchases of perennials which have grown well here, over the years). I admit a fondness for primulas of all sorts, dianthus (also of all sorts) and heaths: these all grow well here. Thanks for creating such a comprehensive web site. I hope to find this spot for many years to come. Best regards, Anne Mountifield. |

| Comments | Dear Graham, What a beautiful garden. I have a rather larger plot and a forthcoming back operation but I have started with lots of pots. I love all kinds of gardens but cottage gardens are my favourite. I have bookmarked your site and will be back soon for more inspiration and tips. I am particularly keen to avoid the use of pesticides so constantly battle with slugs and snails. The beer trick and sharp gravel seem to help. Keep up all the good work. Jane |

| Comments | A lovely, lovely garden. I haven't ever seen a personal website so elaborate; are you a web designer yourself, or is John? I suspect Sophie has other fish to fry, as it were. Your garden is beautifully and skilfully portrayed, both in text and photographs (yes, and graphics as well); I hope you enjoy many more years of puttering around potting, planting and advocating for a cleaner, healthier Earth in which to garden. Best wishes from one too familiar with the battle, and best wishes to John and Sophie as well. |

| Comments | I have enjoyed seeing your garden, it is one of the few small gardens that seems a plantsman's garden but has the design structure to support the plants. Thank you for sharing it. My sister and brother-in -law and I have a young nursery here in Olympia, 'Fairmeadow', that specializes in rare plants from the Siskiyous Mountains in Oregon, as well as other evergreen oaks and Northwest natives. We are building our web site and hope to have it up soon. After that I want to do one for my home garden. So eventually I'll send URL's! Thanks again, Mary |

I'd expected to have moved house by now but it hasn't happened in the way we expected, which isn't a problem as I have so many things I still want to do in the garden here! Put up a nest box, and have been getting more organised about putting out feed for the birds in the hope of seeing a greater diversity of species. For the most part it's limited to blackbirds, thrushes ,sparrows, though there are some bluetits around, and we had a partridge sitting on the wall a while back. best wishes AB |

| Comments | Unfortunately I did not have time to view the whole website, but the pictures of the garden look beautifull. I hope I will be able to visit it one time. Only: by dutch standards, a garden of 20x20 feet is NOT tiny, it is average... (and I wish I had one. I only have a northfacing patio of 20x7 feet, which also contains a shed, and a front and side garden of about the same size. And it has a very poor, sandy soil...But I try to garden as much as possible there, with lots of fuchsia's at the patio and perennials and shrubs on the frontside. So hopefully one day I will have a nice little garden like yours! |

| Comments | charming idea -I too have a Rus in Urbe inner city cottage garden and feel that wild life is important - and am depressed by the redcution of wild bird life in the last year and everyone "making over" thier gardens with decking and cement and tons and tons of slug pellets and other chemicals. I had great thickets of brambles next to my garden that housed hedgehogs amongst other charming beasts, and this has been rooted up and poisoned and built upon. Though not a green nut, I think it appalling that poisons are liberally used without thought. And how everyone wants a garden as tidy as their sitting room. Your garden is an inspiration and should be taken as a model for inner city gardening. |

| Comments | On a friend's recommendation, I visited your site this morning. What a wonderful time I had. The pictures, the sounds, your excellent information and thoughtful comments all combine to take me away from the snow, the ice, and the bitter winds which are March in Canada and transport me to your garden. Put on the kettle, I'll be right there! Thank you, Graham, for inviting me into your garden. Best of luck to you for the coming gardening season. I hope your weather will be kind to you. |

| Comments | Lovely. It's mid-March here in Canada and we're under two feet of snow. Your site allowed me a little 'mental holiday' and gave me the inspiration I needed to hold on until Spring comes again. Thanks. |

| Comments | I was wishing myself into your garden the whole time! I have a friend in Scunthorpe that I'm hoping will visit you for me until I can come back over. I was a visitor to your area 2 years ago in March and have not been the same since. Viewing your garden has made it even worse! Being a gardener since I can remember (just 42 years ago..) and pursuing my interest of horticultural therapy makes your site all the more interesting. I hope to visit soon. Until then, I'll be looking forward to enjoying your hard work and excellent gardening knowledge in my own yard. Love it! |
